The Oyo State Government has disclosed that it will begin the full enforcement of uniform colour for all commercial motorcycles and tricycles in the State in two weeks.
It further revealed that this is mandatory in view of the current security challenges confronting the nation, as well as the dramatic influx of motorcycle operators from neighbouring States.
This was revealed at a meeting held by the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, with the leadership of Motorcycles and Tricycles Union of Nigeria, led by Comrade Yetunde Alabi, and other major stakeholders.
Fagbemi said: “The Authority, having conducted due diligence and meeting with relevant stakeholders, has given a 14-day ultimatum to all commercial motorcycles operating within the State to comply with the directive of painting their respective motorcycles with State approved colours Wine and Yellow.
“The policy is in tandem with the Second Schedule, License Conditions 9 (Commercial), Code LCG01 of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority Law 2009, which stipulates a fine of N15,000 on defaulters.
“Therefore, the enactment of this policy is statutorily backed by the extant laws of Oyo State and it would help to significantly stem the tide of bag snatching, kidnapping and other nefarious acts orchestrated by some unscrupulous motorcyclists in the State.”
Fagbemi said it would help in the easy identification of commercial motorcyclists across the State, hence preventing unsuspecting members of the public from falling prey of fraudsters parading as motorcyclists.
