Industrial Action: Labour Party Exposes Plot To Destabilize Nigeria By Peter Obi, NLC President
A faction of the Labour Party under the headship of Alhaji Lamidi Apapa has alerted security agencies in the country on the alleged plot by the National President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero and the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi to create crisis in the country
Labour Party in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Abayomi Arabambi in an open letter written to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Department of State Security Service, alleged that the duo of Obi and Ajaero and their supporters to have perfected plans to use the proposed industrial action in Imo and the country to create crisis in the country.
The Party writes, “Our attention has been drawn to the activities of the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Mr Joe Ajero, who is now working under the clandestine cover of fighting for the cause of ordinary workers and their welfare but who is heading the military wing of Mr Peter Obi rebellion movement against the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR administration over their dissatisfaction of the Supreme Court judgement that dismissed their bland appeal in less than 120 seconds
“The inspector General of Police is hereby through this statement advised to put his men on alert as the NLC President Mr Joe Ajaero has fixed a meeting at NLC National Secretariat and OBI/DATTI National Campaign Council Secretariat with Mr Peter Obi, Julius Abure, Some Senior critics Lawyers and junior counterparts who recently openly and maliciously castigated the outcome of the Supreme court Judgement, cast aspersions on the integrity of the National Assembly and the Chief Justice of Nigeria
“Labour Party wishes to remind Mr Peter Obi and Mr Joe Ajero whose postures have a resemblance to ethnic bigots, Fascist, Narcissists, and haters of democracy that :
Section 37 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria states that :
(1) Any person who levies war against the State, to intimidate or overthrow the President or the Governor of a State, is guilty of treason and is liable to the punishment of death.
(2) Any person conspiring with any person, either within or without Nigeria, to levy war against the State with intent to cause such levying of war as would be treason if committed by a citizen of Nigeria, is guilty of treason and is liable to the punishment of death:
The Party alleged that “the primary aim of the meeting between the NLC president Comr Joe Ajaero and Mr Peter Obi was to “levies war against the Nigerian states to intimidate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu”
“The NLC president’s unpatriotic activities as the military wing of the Labour party against the Federal Government on the proposed strike is to further cause the recruitment of Obidient political militants from Imo state, Abia State, Anambra State and others invited for the planned meeting included some suspended former members of LP National Working Committee members from Anambra, Imo and Enugu state.
“The Inspector General of Police should please direct his men to mount and conduct stop and search on vehicles coming into Abuja on Tuesday the 30th of October 2023 and Tomorrow Wednesday the 1st day of November 2023
“The NLC President and Mr Peter Obi want to plan civil disobedience, causes unrest through acts of terrorism, sponsored political violence, workers protest and demonstration where all of this will be carried out using the proposed indefinite strike to paralysed activities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Government and set the unsuspecting workers against the state
“Unfortunately, Mr Joe Ajaero’s penchant for civil disobedience and unrest precipitated his infamous formation of the illegal United Labour Congress on December 18th 2016, where he accused the then Comrade Ayuba Wabba-led NLC Leadership of becoming detached from the concerned members and workers through the use of anti-democratic measures
It wasn’t until July 15th 2020 when Mr Joe Ajero was appointed as the Deputy National President of the NLC that he agreed to join the mainstream NLC with over 25 affiliates including some affiliates of TUC
“The Inspector General of Police and the Director General of DSS need to know that Joe Ajaero controls some of the prominent members of the two powerful oil unions, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
“Others included the Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers, the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Employees (NUBIFFE), the Nigeria Union of Rail Workers, the National Union of Lottery Agents, & Employees, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).
“The planned modus operandi of Mr Peter Obi and Joe Ajaero’s destabilization plot is to decimate the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose Election has been confirmed by the Supreme Court using the NLC through the petroleum industry, power sector, financial, aviation, manufacturing and telecommunication sectors among others
“The Labour Party getting abreast of the dastard plans of the enemies of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, distanced itself from such undemocratic moves of the sympathisers of Peter Obi, in expressing their grievances of the election loss at the polls and in the Supreme Court.
“The unpatriotic actions of Mr Joe Ajero and Mr Peter Obi if allowed, would threaten the peaceful existence of the nation and lead to inciting violence in the polity.
“The IGP and security agencies must act fast to contain the plans of the enemies of democracy and compel the citizens to toe the path of patriotism for the smooth administration of President Tinubu.
The assemblage of activists and disgruntled elements within the Obidient fold is capable of plunging the nation into crisis.
“We, the entire leadership of the Alh Bashiru Lamidi Apapa led the National Working Committee of the Labour Party. appeal to the citizens to shun any acts capable of destroying the democratic gains recorded so far in time past for the survival of the country.
“After the judiciary had saved the day, we expected the likes of NLC, Joe Ajaero, and Peter Obi to act in patriotism to rebuild the nation in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu(GCFR).
“We strictly warn the good members of the LP to desist from inciting violence and mayhem and toe the path of patriotism for the economic stabilisation of the nation. The LP under Lamidi Apapa will never support any undemocratic activities of illegal and faceless groups in any guise.
“The NLC President, having received the nod from Peter Obi, acts as Obi’s stooge, using the incessant NLC strike actions to run the country aground, and organising his team to destabilise President Tinubu’s Government.
“Peter Obi had truly chosen to be an autocrat. His acts as currently constituted are capable of leading the country into political instability and violent protests, which negate the tenet of democracy.
His capturing the soul of the NLC has caused uncertainties and uprisings in the nation’s political system.
The Police and other law enforcement agencies must rise to strictly monitor all vehicular movements from the Southeastern part of Nigeria, mostly from Imo Anambra and Abia States, as hoodlums would be likely mobilised to come to Abuja to cause violent protests and ground the economic activities of the nation.
The Lamidi Apapa-led NWC acted in line with the rule of law by working to strengthen democratic values in Nigeria. We call on the LP leadership, mostly those violent activists to calm down and desist from plunging the nation into unnecessary tension and unrest, as they must be resisted by the nation’s security apparatus.
The Police and security agencies must rise to this challenge in case some supporters of Peter Obi under the NLC and Obedient Movement intend to perfect their heinous plans on Wednesday.
Labour Party warned its members to shun such illegal protests, violence, movement, meetings and political vendettas orchestrated by the election losers to plunge the nation into more darkness.
The citizens must rise in unity to protect the nation against both internal and external forces. The Nigerian workers must not be used as political baits of Peter Obi under the veil of the NLC to engage in illegal, criminal acts against the leadership of the country.
The LP urged its members to be law-abiding, we advised other opposition parties to remain patriotic and resolute in the pursuit of their electoral victory come 2027, instead of expressing their frustrations using illegal gatherings and violent protests to cause civil disobedience and political instability in the country.
We in the LP wish to alert the Police and other security agencies to quell the violent moves of the NLC under Joe Ajaero, the Obidient Movement and its leader, Peter Obi.
They must not cause another civil war in expressing their election frustration. Having gone to and lost in the court, Nigerians expect the obedient to toe the path of patriotism in conceding to the judgement of the Supreme Court. As law-abiding citizens, we must protect the interests of the nation by acting in patriotism.
We however call on the IGP and the DG DSS to arrest and prosecute any one of them that causes infractions on section 37 of the Criminal Code Act no matter how highly place
