TIPS TO HOW TO IDENTIFY RRS POLICE AGENTS IN THE FIELD IN ABIA STATE.
The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) is a special Police Unit saddled with a primary responsibility of rapidly responding to violent crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, armed invasion, and armed conflict to guarantee the security of lives and properties and avert the breakdown of Law and Public Order. It is an Interventionist Police Special Unit.
After the brutal murder of Emma Noko by Policemen attached to the Surveillance Team 3 of Abayi Divisional Police Station – MCC-ABAYI, the news around Enyimba City, Abia State and the Nation including Social Media spaces and other media outlets placed culpability on officers and men of RRS Special Unit in AbIa State as the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
All efforts to change the narrative and exonerate the RRS Police Special Unit from the tragic shooting have not gained traction even after investigation revealed the identities of the killer cops and the Team they were attached to at Abayi Divisional Police Station.
A visit to Abia State RRS Police Special Unit Office at Aba North Local Government Headquarter, Eziama and an Interaction with the Commander of the RRS Police Special Unit – Abia State, SP Uche Nwosu, it became clearer that the RRS Police Special Unit are worried about the impersonation of their men and officers by other Police Units operating in and around Abia State especially in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the State.
The RRS Commander SP Uche Nwosu took our team round their premises at Aba North Local Government Headquarter to show us the few tips on how to identify his men and officers in the field.
- All RRS Special Unit operational vehicles are boldly marked RRS on the front and both sides of the vehicle.
- All RRS Special Unit Police Officers in the field must have Jacket, Cap or other top with a boldly RRS inscription on it for easy identification.
The RRS Police Special Unit Commander Abia State warned that any Police vehicle in the field without RRS inscription on the front and both side is not an operational vehicle of RRS Special Unit, Abia State and the Police Officers using the vehicle does not represent RRS Special Unit. The Commander further warned that all Police officers with Special Forces, Surveillance Team or Special Unit inscription on their Jacket, Cap or other Top without RRS inscription on their Jacket, Cap or any other Top are not RRS Police Special Unit Officers.
The Team thanked the Commander for his clarifications and suggested to him to explore the possibilities of changing the colour of RRS Special Unit Jackets, Caps and other Tops for easy identification by members of the public.
