On a certain Sunday morning in the year 2012, I casually dialled Senator Dahiru Awaisu’s mobile and he picked up quickly, I spoke with him in our local dialect, realising it was his brother at other end of the phone, he listened calmly and carefully to me. I proposed something to him and he asked me to meet him at the Office – Senate wing of the National Assembly, the next day. I wanted Tuesday, so I could raise the TP fair between that Sunday and Monday evening. He told me there will be Senate sitting on Tuesday, so he preferred Monday, the next day. He read out the number of his security aide for me, asking me to contact the man for my pass into the Complex.
I arrived the National Assembly the next day with just 200 naira left in my pocket and my pass was waiting for me at the main gate of the NASS.
I was ushered straight into his office, having discussed our proposal with him giving his nod to it. I told him I have a Bachelor of Engineering , the Certificate was almost rotten because I had no job then. He smiled and ordered his Senior Legislative Aide to take a copy of the statement of my result and have it recorded in a Data Base.
Through him, I got recommendation letters to several job seekers including the Military and paramilitary organizations.
He gave me 25k as transport fair, I instantly felt like a millionaire.
Finally, through him, I got employed with the Federal Government and when I was deployed to Katsina and I saw some opportunities that I need the then Governor Shema’s attention and approval, Senator Dahiru gave me a letter of introduction to the Governor. Shema, a learned, very brilliant, leader with several achievement as Katsina Governor to bus credit, was so happy to receive a letter for the revered late Senator. This opened several other beautiful opportunities and connections that remained beneficial till date.
Before his death, Senator DA Kuta, had employed more than 400 people from his constituency into Federal Civil Service, paramilitary, military etc etc. His constituency development projects are there for all to see.
May Allah continue to reward his good deed, forgive his known and unknown transgressions and reward him with aljannah firdaus.
I will write a longer tribute for newspaper publication, insha Allah.
