Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, says Bosun Tijani will retain his ministerial position even after a potential change in government come 2027.
Speaking during the second edition of Arewa Tech Fest in Katsina on Wednesday, El-Rufai expressed confidence that the coalition of opposition forces he is part of will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
Addressing attendees at the tech-focused event, which he convened to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in northern Nigeria, El-Rufai praised Tijani, the current Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, for his performance in office. He remarked that despite political transitions, capable leaders like Tijani deserve continuity. Arriving late to the event, El-Rufai apologised to the audience and explained that his absence the previous day was due to a crucial coalition meeting held in Abuja.
“They had to come without me because yesterday at 8pm, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,” he said. He added, “Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the minister because he is doing good work.”
The former governor, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is actively involved in efforts to build a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 elections.
