Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has made history by becoming the youngest Nigerian to earn a chartered accountancy qualification through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Okundaye’s achievement breaks the previous record held by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant in 2022 at the age of 17.
The milestone was celebrated by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who described Okundaye’s accomplishment as a demonstration of the potential, discipline and determination of young Nigerians.
Olawande said Okundaye’s success serves as an inspiration to other young people, encouraging them to pursue excellence and remain committed to their goals despite challenges.
The minister also acknowledged the role of Okundaye’s parents, teachers and mentors, noting that their support, sacrifices and guidance contributed significantly to her achievement.
The ICAN qualification is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected professional certifications and typically requires years of intensive preparation, making Okundaye’s accomplishment at 16 a notable milestone.
The Minister of Youth Development also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating opportunities that allow young Nigerians to develop their talents and achieve their aspirations.
Okundaye’s record-breaking feat has attracted attention as a remarkable example of academic excellence and the growing achievements of young Nigerians in professional fields.
Her achievement places her among the youngest individuals globally to attain a recognised chartered accountancy qualification.
