2019: Ekiti Teachers shows their support for Buhari as Erelu Fayemi assures them of empowerment by the Government.
The wife of Ekiti state Governor, Erelu Fayemi has met with Female Headteachers across the sixteen local governments in the state with a view to familiarize herself with them. The First lady who was welcomed with great applause by the excited crowd of teachers who were delighted to see her assured the APC and the First Lady of their support.
Aside needing the teachers’ support for the forthcoming election, the Governor’s wife stated that her vision is much more bigger than that and she needs their support for the success of the JKF2 administration especially in regards to one of the key point of his administration which is KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY. She said ‘’If you do not invest in women and girls, you cannot make a headway’’.
The Governor’s Wife described the low level of enrollment in schools over the past four years calling on the teachers to support her move to increase enrollment.
She said “Ekiti state is falling off the map on a number of issues. In 2014 when the Governor, John Kayode Fayemi was leaving, Ekiti was in the top 3 in the country in school enrollment but 4 years down the line, Ekiti has moved to the bottom 6 and when a child is out of school, it is a recipe for generational poverty”.
She said that she will continue working on some of the legislations laid in the first tenure such as gender based violence law and child rights law among others and without the support of the teachers, it is not possible.
She expressed her displeasure in seeing young girls in between the ages of 14 and 16 either pregnant or carrying babies at their backs while she was touring the state on political talkshow the previous week and stated that the meeting was held to see that no Ekiti child is left behind and to also minimize the incidences of violence and harassment of our girls in school. She solicited for their support on her campaign that will be launched in a few months time tagged “KeepGirlsInSchool”.
She said that His Excellency, the Governor will be meeting with the teachers tomorrow and she praised the Governor and made the teachers aware that the Governor is a man of few words and those words carry integrity, fear of God and deep passion to the service of his people and whatsoever he promises to do,he will do it.
She ended her speech by urging the teachers to support the present administration of Dr John Kayode Fayemi and vote for president Buhari reelection come Saturday.
Earlier the Chairperson Association of Primary School Headteacher’s of Nigeria in Ekiti State Mrs Abimbola Ogunleye assured the Governor’s Wife of teachers support at all times.
The teachers’ spokesperson; Com. Mrs. Abimbola Ogunyemi appreciated the Governor’s Wife and informed her of their pressing needs. Some of which include instructional materials as well as arrears of teachers, amongst other needs. She also appreciated the First Lady for organizing the meeting as she said that this is the first time such a meeting will be held in the state and reassured the wife of the governor of their love and support to the success of the administration.
The wife of the Governor reassured them of the attention of the Governor to their needs as well as she involving them in any of her empowerment programs subsequently.
The event ended with the wife of the Governor appreciating every one present for their patience and also gave out gift items to the attendees.
