Niger Senators-Elect Endorse Ahmed Lawan For Senate Presidency
Minna – As the battle of wits rages on over senate presidency and speakership of the House of Representatives, the three Senators-elect in Niger state have thrown their weight behind the candidature of Senator Ahmed Lawan whom they described as, the most competent of all to lead the 9th Senate.
Senator Sabi Abdullahi (Niger-North), Senator Mohammed Sani Musa (Niger -East) and Senator Muhammad Bima Enagi (Niger-South) representing the three Senatorial zones, in a statement made available to newsmen in Minna, said, ‘Lawan is the most fit to lead 9th Assembly’.
“We the Distinguished elected Senators of Niger State, after due consultations and considerations and in recognition of the supremacy of our Party’s position on
the matter, have unanimously thrown our support around the Senate Presidency bid of distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan”.
“This is because we believe Senator Ahmed Lawan has the competence, charisma and integrity to preside over the affairs of the Senate”, adding that, he has an impeccable character and undeniable wealth of experience as a lawmaker to drive the aspirations and vision of the 9th Senate towards achieving its mandate.
The statement jointly signed by the three Senators argued that there is no gainsaying the fact that the 9th National Assembly needs someone like Distinguished Senator Lawan’s leadership qualities that will facilitate in making laws for the good governance of Nigeria.
Senator Lawan has always displayed high level of honesty, sincerity of purpose, respect for divergent views, broadly experienced and above all, loyalty to and believe in party supremacy with proven experience in the business of lawmaking, these according to them makes him the obvious choice for the Senate’s top job.
Expressing hope that the Presidency of Distinguished Senator Lawan at the 9th Senate will bring about the much needed transformation across the 36 states and the FCT, Abuja particularly Niger, the Senators also said Niger state stands to gain more if Senator Lawan emerge as President call on all the APC Senators to support him.
“We Senators from Niger state look forward to sponsoring bills that will benefit the good people of the state with Lawan as Senate President, we will pursue vigorously legislations that will attract development to Niger state and as
well add values to the lives of our constituents”.
Senator Lawan has also demonstrated stability, reliability and fidelity towards ensuring sound and people-oriented legislation as he demonstrated in the build-up to the 2019 general elections where despite pressure from the opposition, remained resolute and committed towards promoting the good course of the Senate as the apex law-making organ in the country.
It is also worth noting that Distinguished Senator Lawan is one Nigerian who has remained detribalized, bi-partisan and accommodating to varying views as long as they are positive and can add to the growth and wellbeing of Nigerians.
They further argued that Senator Lawan has demonstrated his nationalistic tendencies by his support for legislations sponsored by lawmakers who may not necessarily of same political platform but on issues geared towards the general wellbeing of Nigerians on the floor of the Senate.
The senators said they are optimistic that, “Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan would promote homogeneity of purpose and foster unity among members as well as other arms of government in a manner that will add value to the 9th Senate and promote good governance in Nigeria”.
