Ekiti State Government has set up a 15- man steering committee headed
by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael
Awopetu to organize the year 2020 State Youth Summit scheduled to hold
before the end of the year.
At the inaugural meeting of the committee in Ado-Ekiti, the Chairman,
Mr Micheal Awopetu, recalled that the idea of youth summit in the
state dated back to the first term of Dr Kayode Fayemi as Governor of
the state, describing the development as a testimony to the commitment
of the Fayemi administration to youths Development.
The commissioner highlighted the objectives of the project to include
breaking barriers to meaningful youth engagement in civil and
political affairs, encouraging participation, inclusiveness and
equitable opportunities for youth as well as enhancing opportunities
for constructive involvement and meaningful participation of Ekiti
Youth in Community and social development in, political processes and
governance agenda at all levels.
He added that the summit is also expected to create adequate
opportunities for productive employment and successful
entrepreneurship that will enable them to live economically, empowered
and make sustainable contributions to Ekiti State Development while
strategically positioning the state for economic progress.
In her remarks, the Ekiti State coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Mary Chikezie
lauded the efforts of the Fayemi led administration in youth
development, describing the youth summit initiative as well- grounded
preparation for the future of the youths.
Members of the steering committee include the Special Adviser (SA) to
the Governor on communication and Strategy, Mrs Sola Ajulo- Salako, SA
Development partnership, Mrs Margret Fagboyo, Permanent Secretary,
Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Ayodeji Ajiboye, Representative of
office of Wife of Governor, P. A. to Governor, Mr Adedayo Ajibaye, SSA
Party Affairs, Mr Garba Arogundade and SA Youth and Student Affairs,
Mr Ademiloye Moses, others are SA Sports Development, Mr Kolawole
Owoseni, Office of Deputy Chief of staff to Governor, Mr Soyombo,
