Ekiti State Executive Committee of the African Democratic Congress has resolved not to challenge the outcome of the June 20, 2026 governorship election at the Election Petition Tribunal, opting instead for “constructive engagement” and grassroots repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of the SEC’s expanded meeting held at the state party secretariat in Basiri, Ado-Ekiti.
The meeting was however presided over by the State Chairman, Dr. Bamidele Ekunola.
According to the communique signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Rt. Hon. Olugboyega Aribisogan, the SEC said litigation would not serve the greater interest of its members, supporters, and the people of Ekiti State.
“While it may have reservations about aspects of the electoral process, the party chooses the path of constructive engagement over protracted litigation,” the communique read.
The SEC directed all party organs to immediately shift focus to reconciliation, grassroots mobilization, and strengthening of ADC structures across the 177 wards in the state.
To drive this, the Committee resolved to constitute a State Repositioning and Restructuring Committee to develop a roadmap for grassroots reactivation, candidate identification, selection and training of party agents, and election preparedness for 2027.
On unity, the SEC mandated the State Ad-hoc Committee on Reconciliation and Mobilisation to continue engaging aggrieved members and factions to heal divisions.
It described the ADC in Ekiti as “one indivisible family committed to internal democracy and collective progress.”
The Committee also ordered LGA and Ward Executives to begin “immediate and aggressive” membership mobilization targeting youths, women, and professionals, through door-to-door campaigns, town hall meetings, and stakeholder engagements.
Reaffirming its commitment to discipline, the SEC directed the State Anti-Party and Disciplinary Committee to investigate all cases of anti-party activities, impersonation, and conduct capable of bringing the party to disrepute.
In line with a National Working Committee decision, the SEC directed the State Working Committee to set up the Ekiti State Atiku/Amaechi Campaign Mobilisation Committee.
The committee will mobilize grassroots support for the Atiku/Amaechi presidential candidacy and all National and State Assembly candidates, and coordinate voter education across the 16 LGAs.
The SEC passed a vote of confidence in the NWC led by Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, and pledged the total commitment of Ekiti ADC to building a “disciplined, united, and election-winning party.”
It also reaffirmed support for the Dr. Bamidele Ekunola-led State Working Committee and commended the ADC governorship candidate, Amb. Dare Bejide, and his running mate, Chief Ayodeji Babatola, for their contributions to the party’s growth in the state.
The Committee appealed to all members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, and to avoid statements or actions that may cause division within the party.
“The ADC remains committed to providing credible opposition and alternative leadership for Ekiti State. We will continue to hold government accountable and work to ensure that the interests of Ekiti people are protected,” the communique stated.
The meeting had in attendance members of the State Executive Committee, State Working Committee, National Vice Chairman/Zonal Chairman, LGA Chairmen, Women and Youth Leaders, and other key stakeholders.
