AVIATION MISADVENTURE: FRIDAY 14TH DEC, 7AM ENUGU TO MAKURDI “AIR PEACE”
Friday 14th December 2018 would have gone down in history a day of mourning in Nigeria if not for divine intervention!!
On the 7am AIR PEACE FLIGHT Enugu to Makurdi BENUE State Nigeria were the usually different array of travellers…
7am and all passengers were already in the Aircraft ready to go.
The aircraft did not leave.
The Pilot informed that he was waiting for the completion of paper works.
A BIG LIE!!!.
The aircraft was having technical problems. Through the window, Air Peace Engineers were sighted fiddling with the aircraft.
After more than an hour the pilot’s lie was punctured, all passengers were requested to disembark and redirected to another Air Peace craft parked beside the one supposedly for the botched trip.
After another round of uninformed wasted time (almost an hour) there without success the Air Peace management then asked passengers to go back to the Airport waiting Lounge for further information.
Recalcitrant Air Peace airline management Thereafter asked passengers to go back initially first failed Aircraft. That decision marked the beginning of the near air disaster.
20 minutes after take off, suddenly Oxygen Mask dropped!!!. Pandemonium broke!!!
Passengers were grabbing oxygen masks in terribly panic manner. Some passengers fainted, Children crying, mothers weeping and praying and everybody joined in the prayers.
After about 20 minutes normal cabin pressure was restored but no smooth ride anymore. It is suggested that the Pilot lost track too…. that he even flew through Enugu Airport until he found his bearing again.
The Aircraft slowed down. The loss cabin pressure probably led to the slowdown. The entire Crew panicked I suppose.
The plane landed safely thereafter to the glory of God.
It was a nightmare experience for all and wouldn’t be wished for even ones enemy.
Air Peace needs total reorganization and comprehensive overhaul to save the company.
One mistake like this will end Air Peace success story and avoidable lives lost too.
