Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, have arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection with a recent attack in Borno State that left a senior military officer and three soldiers dead.
The suspect, identified as Tijjani, was apprehended on Sunday in Ngamdu while reportedly on his way to procure food supplies for members of his group.
Military sources said the teenager is linked to the attack that resulted in the death of Oseni Braimah, a brigadier-general and commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai. Braimah was killed on Thursday when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military base.
In a video circulating online, the suspect said he was arrested in Ngamdu and admitted involvement in previous attacks in Benisheik and Ngamdu.
Speaking in Hausa, Tijjani claimed he and others operated from Jilli, where they regrouped after carrying out attacks. He said he had been sent back to Ngamdu with ₦850,000 to obtain supplies before his arrest.
He added that he left other fighters in Jilli on Saturday but was unaware of subsequent developments involving them.
Authorities have not released an official statement regarding the arrest.
