The Senate on Tuesday received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari for the confirmation of eight Justices of the Court of Appeal as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The request which was contained in a letter dated 31st August, 2020, was read on the floor during plenary by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan. The Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed Wednesday, Sept. 30, to deliver judgment in a suit stopping the National Judicial Council (NJC) from appointing 21 out of the 33 persons penciled down as judges in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Justice Okon Abang gave the ruling, on Tuesday, after taking arguments from counsel representing parties in the suit. An Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Gbenga Aluko (aka Cherry), to death by hanging for his cult activities.
