The director of Auschwitz Memorial in Poland, Piotr Cywinski, has said he is ready to be imprisoned in Nigeria so that Umar Farouq, a 13-year-old boy sentenced for blasphemy, can regain freedom. Recall that a Sharia court in Kano had convicted Farouq for “using disparaging language on Allah” during a disagreement with his friend. Following the ruling, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) had appealed to the Kano state government to reverse the jail sentence. In a letter dated September 25 and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Cywinski asked the president to grant Farouq a presidential pardon. He said if…

Right now, it looks like Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, has the votes to do that. The brazen and…

What could be the matter between these two Ekiti sons, Governor Kayode Fayemi and Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Special Adviser on Political Matter at the Presidency? The two were pro-democracy musketeers who gave the military a run for the cost of their guns and jackboots. In fact, Abacha put him in the slammer for months! What, therefore, could…

In his reaction to the purported suspension of Governor Kayode Fayemi by an unknown group, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, described it as a joke taken too far. Oyebode said the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party is governed by laws, adding that members of the group cannot hide under their recent suspension to announce a dubious suspension they lack the locus to handle.
