The Benin Traditional Council has condemned the unauthorized visit of streamer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja (Peller) to the Oba of Benin Palace, describing it as a serious breach of protocol and a desecration of a sacred institution.
The council revealed that Peller gained access to the palace on March 6 without proper approval, causing embarrassment and disrupting peace within the palace grounds. As part of ongoing disciplinary actions, a chief linked to the incident has been suspended indefinitely, while a palace staff member has been arrested and charged by the Nigeria Police Force.
Notably, a Queen who appeared in the incident is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings and may be removed from the palace in line with tradition.
The council has summoned Peller to appear before a committee of chiefs to explain his actions, but he has yet to comply. Authorities have now demanded his immediate appearance and a written apology, warning that legal action will follow if he fails to respond.
Reaffirming its role as custodian of Benin customs, the council stressed that the palace remains a sacred institution, not a venue for casual or unauthorized activities.
