DENJA @ FIFTY LITERATURE AND ARTS FESTIVAL(DAFLAF 2019)
Denja Abdullahi is an important figure in the literary, cultural and academic landscapes of Nigeria, especially in the sphere of literary development and promotion. He is particularly well known for his contribution to the creative sector, at the National Council for Arts & Culture where he has worked for over two decades and is currently a Director and at the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) where he rose to the enviable position of a two- term President of the Association since 2015, after having also served at various times for close to two decades as Ex-officio, Assistant General Secretary, General Secretary and Vice President at the national level. He has had a successful career across the academia, journalism and the public service. He is a published writer with 8 published works which cut across poetry, plays, essays and scholarly books. In 2018, one of his plays, Death and the King’s Grey Hair made it to the shortlist of Nigeria’s most prestigious literary prize, the NLNG Prize for Literature.
A Festschrift on Arts and Cultural Leadership
In August 2019, Denja ABDULLAHI will be celebrating his golden jubilee and friends from his tripartite constituencies (literary, cultural and the academia) have decided to honour him with a Festschrift. Interested persons are therefore requested to send their works for the proposed publication as follows:
- Articles of up to 3000 words with a substantive and/or methodological focus that connects with Denja Abdullahi’s works as a literary/cultural activist and as a writer.
- short pieces, likely to be collectively entitled ‘appreciative connections’ or ‘Denja and I’, each of which should not be more than 1000 words and each of which describes the writer’s relationship with Denja Abdullahi as an individual, a writer and with his works in the creative sector.
- Reviews/critical pieces on Denja Abdullahi’s literary works of not more than 1500 words
- Poetry (in honour of the celebrant or inspired by any of his works),
- Short fictions of not more than 1500 words
- One-Act plays on the theme of ‘Leadership’.
Guidelines:
- All entries must be received on or before May 31, 2019
- All tries must be submitted as an attachment (MS Word document)
- Each submission should be clearly marked in the subject column to indicate the category being entered for. For instance, DAFLAF One-Act Play Submission, DAFLAF Essay Submission or DAFLAF Poetry Submission
