As part of efforts at combating the spread of corona virus in Ekiti
State, the Ekiti State Government has constituted a State
Environmental Task Force and corresponding team in each of the 16
Local Government Areas in the State to ensure adherence to
government’s directives aimed at curtailing the spread of the Corona
virus in the State.
The State Task Force is made up of the Commissioner for Environment as
Chairman, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, General
Manager of the State Emergency Protection Agency (SEPA) and the
Director, Environmental Health Services, as well as representatives of
Security Agencies, Iyaloja, Seriki Hausa, Ekiti State Traffic
Management Agency, drivers’ unions and Okada Riders association.
Inauguration the Taskforce in Ado Ekiti, Governor Fayemi who was
represented by the Commissioner for Environment Mr. Gbenga Agbeyo said
that the task of teams was basically to ensure that people in the
state comply with the directives to play safe in order to curtail the
spread of the dangerous Virus.
Fayemi said that the Task Force had a mandate to ensure that all
public gathering of any kind were not more than 20 persons while all
market users practice hand-washing or apply hand sanitizers regularly
to curb the spread of the virus.
He added that the teams were to also ensure that commercial vehicles
and motorcycles were not overloaded while hand washing/sanitizing
facilities were provided at various motor parks.
Also the Local Government Environmental Task Force include: Chairman,
Director of Administration, Supervisor on Environment, Director
Environmental Services and Representatives of all Security Agents
