
Ekiti government unveils plan to construct 500 km roads across communities
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi in his plan to ensure good
road network in towns and villages in the State has put mechanism in
place that would assist his government complete five hundred
kilometers roads before the expiration of his tenure in office.
Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Hon. Adesola Adebayo said
this while addressing journalists on the activities of his Ministry in
Ado-Ekiti
Hon. Adebayo who emphasized the significance of good roads to rural
settlements said the development would help farming and other economic
activities in the State.
He itemized some roads the Fayemi-led government has fixed within few
months of his second term in office to include about thirty nine (39)
kilometers roads within Ado-Ekiti, the State Capital, failed portions
along Itaji-Ijelu road, reconstruction of culverts along Afao-Igbemo
road among others.
He said Ekiti has ninety State roads with about 1026 kilometers,
noting that the present administration was committed to extending the
construction of good roads to all the three Senatorial Districts to
ensure all-round development in the State.
The Commissioner who explained that roads are categorized under
Federal, States and Local Government Authorities to fast-track the
process of development called on people to always ensure proper use
and maintenance of government facilities to enable them endure for a
long time.
He urged people to desist from burning tyres on roads while expressing
grievances and dumping of refuse in the drains which often lead to
overflow of water into the roads, saying such unwholesome acts weaken
the roads.
Hon. Adebayo listed some ongoing projects to include New Ado-Iyin
Ekiti dualisation (7km), culvert repair at Basiri, Ado-Ekiti,
reconstruction of culvert along Oke-Ako-Ipao Road, repair of failed
portions along Itaji-Ijelu road.
The Commissioner for Works called on people to exercise patience with
the government as it executes these projects one after the other.
