Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has disclosed that his administration spent over N200 million on relief materials for victims of disasters in the first quarter of 2026.
Oyebanji made this known on Friday during the distribution of relief items to about 200 victims of a recent rainstorm in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Represented by his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, the governor said the intervention reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting residents affected by disasters such as rainstorms, fire outbreaks, and flooding.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the state through the approval of relief materials, describing the collaboration as vital.
The governor assured residents that the government would continue to assist victims, while urging property owners to adopt preventive measures to reduce disaster risks.
He equally praised the efforts of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency for its prompt response and coordination in handling emergency situations across the state.
Oyebanji noted that although the relief materials may not fully compensate for losses, they are meant to provide immediate support and comfort to affected individuals.
Earlier, the General Manager of the agency, Oludare Asaolu, said about N230 million had been approved for victims, while officials also called on residents to avoid unsafe practices that could lead to disasters, especially during the rainy season.
