Ekiti State Attorney General’s Office
- Establishment of a Law Officers Security Protection Service.
- Memo before the State Executive Council is on the appointment of Legal Officers to MDAs in our State.
- Memo to the State Security Council is on the implementation of the State Security Trust Fund Law
I am pleased to announce this morning, the establishment of a Law Officers Security Protection Service. The Ministry of Justice will continue to work to ensure that threats to Law Officers are quickly assessed and appropriate measures are taken.
We will not accept that a Law Officer is intimidated or threatened in any way in discharging his obligation to faithfully represent the State Government in any proceedings and before any court in Ekiti State.
To that end, I have directed the establishment of a Law Officers Security Protection Service to be coordinated by a Law Officers Security unit within the office of the Solicitor- General & Permanent Secretary (SG/PS), Ministry of Justice
I have further directed that the SG/ PS immediately undertakes a review of similar initiatives if it exists within Nigeria and globally so that the Ministry of Justice, as well as the Nigerian Police and other security agencies in the state, can benefit from a compilation of best practices. We must take every step to ensure that our Law Officers, never face violent attack for carrying out their duties.
The Law Officers Security Unit will be mandated to enhance the safe and secure conduct of judicial proceedings by protecting Law Officers both within and outside courthouses. This will be a comprehensive effort accomplished by anticipating and deterring threats to Law Officers, and by continuously developing and employing innovative protective tactics. To achieve this in concrete terms we will engage the Nigeria Police, State Security Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on modalities for the implementation of this intervention.
Today, I will be presenting two Memos at the meetings of the State Executive Council and that of the State Security Council. My memo before the State Executive Council is on the appointment of Legal Officers to MDAs in our State.
This is one of the measures I have put in place to ensure that we provide effective, professional and accessible legal advise to the government and people of Ekiti State. My Memo to the State Security Council is on the implementation of the State Security Trust Fund Law
Mr. Governor is determined to strengthen the Security Architecture of the State. Achieving freedom from crime for all those living in the State is priority for the Fayemi administration. We will succeed.
