The Ekiti State Executive Council held its 14th meeting of the year 2020, a virtual one, on Wednesday 22nd July, 2020. The following memoranda came up for deliberation, and were approved by the Executive Council members, unanimously.1. The Executive Council approved the development of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy in Education, for both Primary and Secondary Schools in Ekiti State. This is in furtherance of one of the major pillars of the Fayemi-led administration, which is the Knowledge Economy. The Policy was approved to fulfill the quest to commence ICT education right from our basic schools in Ekiti, and to embrace a structured approach in building a robust, scalable and sustainable ICT culture in Ekiti State. The need to ensure that global practices are put in place, so that teaching/leaving will deliver and produce world class products, cannot be overemphasized.
The proposed policy will cover six (6) thematic areasi. Human Capital Developmentii. Infrastructure iii. Awareness and Communication iv. Governancev. Financing vi. Monitoring and Evaluation
The implementation plan will put in place the strategy, tangible activities, measurable deliverables, responsibilities, time lines, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on each of the thematic areas, for accurate and concise implementation of the policy. The State Executive Council constituted a sub-committee comprising of; The Director General OTSD, Director General Bureau of Public Procurement, SA ITI, DG ICT, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, and the Commissioner for Education, Science & Technology, to further fine tune the details of the policy.2. The State Executive Council approved the memorandum on the Establishment of Ekiti State Institute of Local Government Studies Bill, 2020. The Bill is to make a Law, to provide for theestablishment of the Institute of Local Government Studies, in Ilawe – Ekiti.
The establishment of the institute is to provide facilities for learning, and to give instructions in relevant branches of knowledge relevant to the institute, to enable students to obtain training in Local Government Studies, Vocational Studies, Community Development and Social work, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and other relevant courses/training programmes. 3. The Executive Council approved a memorandum on the review of Laws of Ekiti State, 2012 (Vol. 3&4). The review of the Laws is an ongoing process, to bring the five volumes of the 1st Edition of the Laws of Ekiti State, up to date. The provisions of the five volumes of the Laws of Ekiti State were last reviewed in 2009, and some of the laws have become obsolete, or repealed. Laws passed by the Ekiti State House of Assembly since 2009 to date are not included in the five (5) volumes (first edition)
