
Members of the newly inaugurated Joint Revenue Committee (JRC) in
Ekiti State have been charged to be diligent, truthful and patriotic
in the discharge of the onerous duty committed to their hands.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Prof.
Adio Folayan gave the charge during the official inauguration of the
committee in his office in Ado-Ekiti.
Prof. Adio Folayan, who said that the Ekiti State Government is
leaving no stone unturned to improve on the Internally Generated
Revenue of the State to enable it make life better for the citizenry,
charged the Committee to work in synergy with other critical sectors
of the state economy to improve the IGR.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Board for Internal Revenue
Services (BIRS), Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunmilade said the inauguration of the
Committee became necessary now that governments and individuals all
over the world are facing economic challenges resulting from the
effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the inauguration would put the revenue generation in
good perspective and it would enhance the synergy between the State
and Local Governments in driving revenue.
The BIRS Boss highlighted some of the functions of the Committee to
include harmonising tax administration in the State and all the local
governments; dealing with revenue matters of common concern to the
State and Local Government authorities.
Other functions are enlightening members of the public generally on
State and Local Government revenue matters; consideration of relevant
resolution of the Joint Tax Board for implementation in Ekiti State;
and advising the Joint Tax Board, the State and Local governments on
revenue matters.
He said the committee is also saddled with the responsibility of
resolving areas of friction between the State and Local governments as
far as tax administration, collection and remittances are concerned.
The Committee members comprise the Chairman of BIRS, Local Government
Chairmen, Local Government Directors of Finance, Federal Road Safety
Corps Commandant and Revenue mobilization officials.
Also, in attendance was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local
Government and Community Development, Mr. Sola Ogunmiluyi.
