By Amaechi Agbo
The Management Committee of Ekiti United FC, has set promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League as their target ahead of the kick off of the 2018/19 Nigeria National League, NNL, next week.
Chairman of the committee, Adewumi Awopepu, who disclose this in an interview with journalists said the newly rebranded team has all the support and materials to gain promotion to the elite league in the first asking.
Awopepu added that the governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi who was at the vanguard of the rebranding of the club, has given the committee as well as the club all necessary support to excel.
“Our target is to gain promotion to NPFL. We are confidence of promotion to the elite league because the governor has given us everything we need to be able to gain promotion. We have his financial and moral support and the rebranding of the team.
“The deputy governor visited the team recently and said that the welfare of the team is paramount to the government.
We are ready to take care of the players and the officials to be able to gain promotion. We are ready to confront the best in the league and play them. We have a complete team already, so we are not recruiting again. We have the best players and technical crew and they are hungry to go.
“Ektit United was relegated because the standard of the team was compromised, players were signed not on merit and paid salaries not good enough for them. Good officials were relegated at the background with the chief coach earning about N30, 000 per month.
“When Fayemi came in, he increased the salaries of the officials and players and want them to live a better live. In the last few weeks, the team has played more than 8 friendly matches and they have been winning. They played these matches with good results and we believe that before the end of the season, Nigerians will know that Ekiti United have arrived,” he said.
