The attention of Ekiti State Government has been drawn to a viral video and report of an alleged army take-over in Ado Ekiti, the state capital on Monday.
The State Government wishes to state that the military was not deployed to the State to prevent citizens from pressing home their demands from the government.
Instead, the military, like other security agencies have been on ground in the state to ensure that laws and order were maintained.
Contrary to what those behind the viral video and misleading report set out to achieve, the military did not in anyway stop or interfere with the protesters, as many of the protesting groups blocked major roads, ordered motorists to disembark from their vehicles and pull down billboards among others.
Instead, the military , like other security agencies were more concerned about safety of lives and properties and guarding against an escalation of the protest into a major crisis, by ensuring miscreants do not hijack the protest.
It is on record that security agencies in the state have been keeping to instructions of not engaging the protesters in spite of attacks on citizens and some public places.
While the state government supports the campaign for an end to police brutality and rights abuses and had gone ahead to set up a judicial panel of enquiry to investigate cases of brutality and extra judicial killings, we urge the protesting citizens to be peaceful in their approach.
