
Ekiti State House of Assembly (EKHA) has passed two bills, committed
two other ones and adopted two resolutions submitted by two separate
House Committees.
The bills passed at the House plenary are the bill to transfer the
payment of Pension and other Retirement benefits of Ekiti State
Judicial officers and other matters connected therewith from the
office of Establishment and Service Matters to Ekiti State Judicial
Service Commission, and Ekiti State Institute of Local Government
Studies Bill, 2020.
Introducing the bills at plenary in Ado Ekiti, the Leader of
Government Business, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan said payment of pensions
and other retirement benefits of judicial officers were aimed at
giving room for separation of powers as enshrined in the constitution
of the Federal Republic.
Lawmakers present at the plenary were of the opinion that the bill
will enhance separation of powers between the Executive and the
judiciary arms of government, towards the implementations of the
autonomy granted the judiciary in the constitution.
In his submission, the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye
said the passage of the bill would empower the State Judiciary Service
Commission to perform some statutory functions.
The Ekiti State Institute of Local Government Studies Bill, 2020 was
also passed after the report of the Committee on Local Government and
Chieftaincy Affairs was presented to the House.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Tope
Ogunleye, representing Ilejemeje Constituency, said the Institute
would serve as training ground for local government employees and to
undertake other activities appropriate for an institute.
Both bills were unanimously passed by the lawmakers and read by the
Clerk of the House, Mr. Tola Esan for the third readings.
Also, at the plenary, a bill to provide for the establishment of the
State Honours Roll “Oni Uyi Awards” and Ekiti Sport Development Fund
Bill, 2020 were committed to appropriate Committees for further
Legislative actions.
The bill on Oni Uyi Awards was committed to the committee on Security
and Special Duties while the Committee on Youth and Sports Development
will work on the Sports Development Funds Bill.
Meanwhile, the House has approved the recommendations of its public
Account Committee on the domestic report of the State Auditor General
and the Auditor General for Local Government in respect of the account
of Ekiti State and sixteen Local Government Councils for the year
ended 31st December, 2018.
The report was adopted after a resolution moved by Hon Lateef Akanle,
representing Ekiti East II and seconded by Hon Reuben Awoyemi,
representing Oye I.
In the same vein, the Report of the House Committee on Public
Petitions in respect of the petition submitted by Messiers Aniyeloye
Gbadeyan and Fatile Moses appealing for the review of their wrongful
ouster from the Ekiti State Local Government Service was adopted by
the House.
Presenting the Committee report, the Chairman, Hon. Adegoke Olajide
said all evidences before the committee indicated that the two
officers were wrongfully eased out of Service.
The Committee recommended that both officers should be reinstated into
the Ekiti State local government service with their entitlements paid
from November 2010 till date.
