
In a bid to make education more affordable and easy in Ekiti, Ekiti
State Government has approved the release of grant to Schools in the
State for the smooth running of Schools.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Mrs
Olabimpe Aderiye who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the
Ministry, Mr James Owolabi disclosed this while declaring open the
Award Presentation and 5th Biennial Conference of the National
Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (COBUSS) in Ado Ekiti.
Dr Aderiye explained that Ekiti State Government has always been
proactive to ensure improve standard of education and easy access to
education by paying the WAEC fees of all SS 3 students yearly and
regular release of grants to schools for smooth administration.
She stressed that Bursars are vital and relevant stakeholders to
achieving the goals the government set to achieve in the education
sector in the State.
The Education Commissioner, who affirmed that Ekiti Bursars are
dedicated, transparent and trustworthy, charged them to sustain the
good virtues and always prove to be men and women of integrity while
performing their duties.
She advised the COBUSS Executive to follow the due process in
presenting their requests to the government with the assurance that
the government will look into them appropriately and attend to them in
due course.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Hon
Babatunde Abegunde who was also one of the Awardees commended the
unity of purpose displayed by Bursars in their Union noting that the
conduct of the executive contributed immensely to the industrial
harmony in secondary education sector in Ekiti State.
Hon Abegunde affirmed that COBUSS is one of the most peaceful labour
unions in Ekiti State with their uprightness and maturity so far
displayed.
He appreciated the “Distinguished and Medallion Award” bestowed upon
him by COBUSS and promised to continue to support the Union in his
personal and official capacity to further portray it as a responsible
and reliable labour union and partners in progress with the Ekiti
State government.
Also speaking, the National President COBUSS, Comrade Jide Oguntuase
lauded the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for creating an enabling
environment for education to run smoothly in the State.
Mr Oguntuase explained that the purpose of the Congress was to
galvanise Bursars into application of some basic professional theories
and practices that can enhance efficiency in work situation.
He highlighted some of the requests of the Union to include the
approval of elongation of career of executive cadre from GL 14 to 15
amongst others.
In his welcome address, the Ekiti State President of COBUSS, Comrade
Akinwande Rotimi explained that the biennial Congress is to coordinate
the views that could lead to attaining excellence and integrity of the
profession which will enhance higher productivity of members.
He noted that both teachers’ unions’ and NASU are managed by one
Commission (TESCOM) hence there should be no disparity in their
incentives since both Unions are working towards the same goal and for
the same government.
In attendance at the event were the PS TESCOM, Mr Olusesan Alabi, the
three Tutors General in Ekiti, Mrs Adejoke Omogbemi, Mrs Rhoda Ojo and
Mr Kehinde Isinkaye, the Chairman Trade Union Congress (TUC) and
Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Sola
Adigun, Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Olugbesan
Akosile, ANCOPPS President, Chief Ilori Temitayo and hosts of other
dignatries.
