
The Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring
good and qualitative healthcare delivery to the residents of the
state.
The Commissioner for Health and Human services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani
gave the assurance in Ikole – Ekiti at a community engagement meeting
with the people of Ikole Local Government Area.
Dr. Filani noted that the community engagement programme, starting
from the local government, is an initiative by the Dr. Kayode Fayemi
led administration to ensure involvement of community members at
various stages of health interventions, adding that that the programme
would create a platform for two-way communication and trust building
between residents of the state and the State Ministry of Health in
order to meet the health needs of the people.
The Commissioner who also gave an update on the state’s COVID-19
response disclosed that the State Government has established three
isolation centres as part of efforts to ensure positive cases receive
appropriate care.
He stated that the government has commenced mass renovation of primary
and secondary health facilities across the state, to ensure health
care delivery at community level and therefore appealed to the people
of Ikole local government area to access services provided through the
Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme, noting that Government has
established the scheme to reduce financial burden for health care
among the populace.
“As we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government has
established new isolation centres, donated an ambulance to the State
Specialist Hospital Ikole-Ekiti and solar refrigerators to healthcare
facilities across the LGA. We are doing all we can for the safety of
Ekiti State residents and indigenes. Please access these services,
including the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available. We will
continue to prioritize the health and safety of Ekiti-kete” the
Commissioner stated.
In her remarks, the Chairman State Primary Health Care Development
Agency (SPHCDA) Chief Mrs. Monisola Oloro explained that the solar
refrigerators supplied to health facilities across the State would
ensure proper preservation of drugs and other pharmaceutical products
in storage.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of Ikole Local Government, Hon.
Sola Olominu expressed gratitude to the State Government for the
employment of more medical doctors to serve in in the local
government, calling on the residents to reciprocate the kind gesture
by supporting government programmes aimed at improving health care
delivery.
Also speaking, the Elekole of Ikole-Ekiti and the Paramount ruler of
Egbeoba kingdom, HRM Oba Adewunmi Fasikun who was represented at the
venue by Obanla of Ijesa-Isu , HRM Oba Oso Adeniyi appreciated Gov.
Kayode Fayemi for his efforts at giving facelift to health facilities
across the LGA and for appointing one of their sons as the
commissioner for health in the State.
Other participants notably Chief Samuel Ogunsakin, Mr. Michael
Ogungbemi and Mrs. Kolade Ajayi appreciated the government for the
landmark achievements it has recorded in the health sector and urged
for more developments.
