It has been observed that the waste generated within Ado Ekiti metropolis is steadily increasing due to the gradual urbanisation of the city. This has raised concerns that the 20 Dino Bins fabricated earlier this year in collaboration with Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for ethical waste collection and treatment in Ado Ekiti may soon become insufficient.
Aware of the dangers posed by poor environmental sanitation practices, the State Executive Council, on 30th April 2024, approved the sum of N112,268,921.12 for the procurement of an additional 20 single 12CBM Dino Bins with rollers through direct acquisition from Lagos State.
The approval for direct purchase is premised on the existing technical partnership to tackle environmental challenges on waste management, and transfer of knowledge and technology between Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (EKSWAMA) and LAWMA which led to the construction of 20 suitable, made-to-last Dino Bins manufactured in the State.
At the same meeting, the State Executive Council also instituted a committee to look into the State’s environmental sanitation system and come up with a holistic framework that will ensure compliance with the routine environmental sanitation exercise alongside improved and sustainable sanitation practices in the State.
Ekiti State Government remains committed to ensuring a clean, healthy and safe environment that is free from contaminants, pollutants and diseases. Residents are also enjoined to cooperate by complying with lawful, safe and responsible waste disposal practices and participating in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise which is aimed at protecting public health.
