Residents of Ijesa-Isu Ekiti in Ekiti State have been thrown into a frenzy following the alleged forceful eviction of Princess Omobolaji Adeniyi, from the palace amid ongoing disputes over the selection of a new Obanla.
This development is coming after the Ekiti State Government approved a new traditional ruler for the town; a decision currently being challenged in court by aggrieved parties.
Residents of the community reportedly expressed outrage over the incident, accusing influential figures of undermining traditional authority and deepening divisions within the town.
According to credible sources, the crisis escalated after the regent raised concerns about attempts to destabilise the community during the leadership dispute about selecting a new Obanla.
Speaking about the incident, Princess Adeniyi alleged that she was assaulted, humiliated and locked out of the palace by security operatives while trying to move her personal belongings.
Describing the experience as painful and unexpected, the regent narrated how she devoted herself to maintaining peace and stability in the community while suspending several personal commitments throughout her regency and isn’t deserving of such maltreatment.
Princess Adeniyi further disclosed that the incident was orchestrated by the Chairman of Kajola Local Council Development Area, Ojo Ajayi, claiming security personnel, including members of the Agro-Marshal and Amotekun Corps, harassed her and assaulted her driver before officials of the Department of State Services intervened.
Reacting to the Princess’ allegations, Ojo Ajayi denied her claims, describing them as false and insisting that he neither ordered her removal from the palace nor directed any security operative to harass or prevent her from retrieving her belongings.
