A devastating incident has allegedly occurred at the Ero Dam in Ekiti State, claiming the lives of two undergraduate students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU). The victims, Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, were reportedly students of the Department of Theatre Arts.
According to eyewitnesses, the students had accompanied their supervisor and colleagues to Igogo Ekiti for a research project and rehearsal. However, after the assignment was completed, the two students allegedly stayed behind and ventured to the Ero Dam, Okun Ekiti for sightseeing.
Their disappearance sparked a search and rescue operation by the police and local fishermen. While the authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of death, community members suspect that the students may have drowned in the dam.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed that the students were missing but stated that the police could not yet confirm whether they had drowned. Abutu assured that a search and rescue team, including fishermen, were working to locate the victims. The Ekiti State University community is in mourning, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
