EKSG budgets N6 million for sporting equipment, grassroots sports development
A budgetary allocation of ten million naira (#10,000,000) has
been approved for various activities of Ekiti State Sports Council in
the 2019 appropriation Act recently signed by the governor, Dr. Kayode
Fayemi.
The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Dapo
Kolawole made this disclosure while presenting to stakeholders and the
general public detailed analysis of the 2019 budget in Ado-Ekiti
recently.
Hon. Kolawole, who explained that a sum of #4million,
representing 40% of the total sum earmarked for the Agency would be
used to purchase office equipment, while the remaining #6million
balance, representing 60% was budgeted for grassroots sports
development and procurement of sporting equipment.
While commenting on the budgetary allocation to the Agency, the
General Manager, Ekiti State Sports Council, Chief Ayodeji Samo said
the allocation would not only go a long way to encourage grassroots
sports development but equally assist to discover hidden talents in
the state.
Chief Samo, who also said the gesture would not only reactivate
the mental alertness of the youths, but would also boost the
atheletes’ socio-economic potentials.
The General Manager remarked that the budgetary allocation to the
Agency by the Fayemi-led administration has greatly raised the hope of
stakeholders that sporting activities in the state will be more
boisterous this year as there will be increase in the participation of
Ekiti state contingents in both national and international sporting
competitions thereby exposing the state athletes to wider and better
opportunities that would assist the State in winning more laurels.
