
Erelu Fayemi calls for level playground for women to showcase potentials
The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has urged all
hands to be on deck to checkmate all forms of gender-based violence
and discrimination against women and ensure a level playground for
women to showcase their potentials.
Erelu Fayemi, who made the call in the address she delivered at this
Year’s International Women’s Day Celebration held at the Ekiti Parapo
Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti noted that the theme for this year’s
celebration, “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change” is a
clear evidence that women all over the world are not just craving for
equality but are poised to build smart and display their innovative
capability to change the world for better.
She expressed her appreciation and that of Ekiti women to His
Excellency, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for various
life-transforming programmes his government has put in place to
improve the welfare of women across the state.
The Wife of the Governor, who mentioned some of the achievements of
Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration to include women protection,
development and welfare and domestication of Ekiti State Gender and
Development policy, stressed the commitment of the State to full
implementation of Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law.
The governor’s wife charged women to come together as a formidable
team in order to contribute meaningfully to the development of the
society as well as Nigeria as a whole.
“In this regard, we must be ready to forge ahead and rightfully take
our position at the helm of affairs we find ourselves and use our
God-given potentials for the good of humanity”, Erelu further charged
women.
Erelu Fayemi, who commended the efforts of Governor Kayode Fayemi and
his formidable team for initiating women empowerment and welfare
schemes and policy, also used the occasion to reminisce women in the
state who are currently passing through various difficulties such as
poverty, ill health, widowhood amongst others expressed government’s
concern about them.
In her own remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs,
Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Foluke Adeyemo said
events like International Women’s Day Celebration always provide women
with the opportunity of reflecting upon the achievements and important
contributions women have made in all endeavours both at local and
international levels.
Mrs. Adeyemo recalled that within two months of the current
administration in Ekiti state, at the first program for women, tagged
“16 Days of Activism”, more than (100) indigent women were empowered,
which she said was a plus to the administration.
Adeyemo however enjoin the people to always pray and support the
administration in the State for it to execute more transformation
programs in the state.
The acting Head of Service, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, who also showed her
pleasure for women’s massive turn-out in the state for this year’s
women’s day celebration commended women in the public service for
being loyal, sensible and intelligent appreciated the women for their
individual and collective contributions to the development of the
State.
At the event, a drama presentation was made by the Muslim College, Oke
Ila, Ado-Ekiti. The presentation emphasized significant roles women
play in politics and how they are being treated by their men folks in
the society.
Other guests and speakers at the celebration included the All
Progressive Congress (APC) Women Leader, Mrs. Afuye, Eyesorun
Adejugbe, Wife of the Commissioner of Police, Vice Chancellor, Ekiti
State University, Provost of the College of Education, Ikere Ekiti,
market women and representatives from all the sixteen Local Government
areas.
