Fayemi receives commendation for grassroots developments
The administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been commended for
initiating projects that will ensure even development in all the
sixteen Local Government areas of Ekiti State.
The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr.
Banji Ojo gave the commendation during the opening ceremony of a two –
day workshop entitled “Effective Implementation of Community
Development Programs in the Local Government” in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti
State capital.
The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by the Head of Local
Government Administration, Mr. Babatunde Jegede explained that the
workshop would enhance the ongoing infrastructural development in the
rural areas.
Mr. Ojo noted that every community in Ekiti State was blessed
with human and material resources and that if these resources are
properly harnessed it would bring about the desired socio-economic
development in the rural areas.
He implored the state government to conduct sufficient research
into the existing resources and potentials in the local areas, with a
view to tapping them for the benefit of the populace.
The permanent secretary said that involving local communities in
governance would draw people at the grassroots closer to government
and make governance all inclusive.
The permanent secretary explained that through self-help
projects, various basic infrastructural facilities such as roads,
bridges, markets, health institutions among others had been provided
in the different parts of the country.
Mr. Ojo therefore called on the officers in the Community
Department of the Local Government Service Commission to mobilize all
available government machineries to ensure good governance and desired
development in the rural areas.
The Permanent Secretary also urged Community Development Officers
in the sixteen local government areas in the state to liaise
appropriately with government to identify the areas of the people’s
needs with a view to attending to them.
Earlier, the Director of Training in the commission, Mr. Emmanuel
Agbola said the training was meant to re-energize the capacity and
intellectual base of participants to allow them forge ahead in their
various assignments.
He charged the participants to shun truancy and indolence at work
stressing that the commission would not hesitate to deal decisively
with erring officers.
The lead consultant at the Training, Mr. Morakinyo Akintayo
explained that the Training was organized to equip participants with
necessary knowledge and information to tackle the challenges of
grassroots development.
