- Today, myself as a “New Year Baby” welcome to Ekiti2019 the newest arrival 40+ years after my official outing as a 1st January Baby!
- The “New Year Baby” is a personification of the start of the New Year.
- Bringing a new baby home is one of the most exciting universal human experiences. For most parents, it is a time of celebration — when families and communities come together to honor and welcome the new child.
- This baby symbolizes the “birth” of the next year and the “passing” of the prior year; in other words, a “rebirth”.
During the age of Plato and Socrates, Greeks ushered in the New Year with celebrations honoring Dionysus, the son of Zeus and god of wine. One of their traditions was placing an infant in a winnowing basket and hoisting the child skyward to represent the rebirth of Dionysus.
Baby New Year’s purpose varies by myth, but the baby generally performs some sort of ceremonial duty over the course of the year such as chronicling the year’s events or presiding over the year as a symbol.
Despite “Baby New Year” having lost most of the initial intended religious significance, this child still however remains relevant as a symbol of renewal and rebirth. Traditionally, each Baby New Year ages into the Old Year who welcomes a new Baby New Year every twelve months.
My singular messageon this day is to wish Peace to the World…..
- Let us bring equality, justice, and peace for all. Not just the politicians and the world leaders, we all need to contribute. Me. You. It is our duty. Malala Yousafzai (Nobel Prize Winner 2014).
- You cannot find peace by avoiding life. Virginia Woolf.
