The United States has updated its travel advisory for Nigeria, listing 23 states as high-risk areas and urging non-essential personnel and dependents to leave affected locations.
The advisory, issued by the U.S. Department of State, maintains Nigeria at Level 3 (reconsider travel) and places parts of the country under Level 4 (do not travel), citing insecurity, kidnapping, terrorism, and civil unrest.

The advisory also warned that violent crime, including armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom, and carjacking, remains widespread in several regions. It added that security operations can take place without prior notice in affected areas.
Travellers were advised to limit movement, avoid public demonstrations, and register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for updates while in the country.
