
HOS charges people to patronize adult literacy centres for new skills.
Ekiti State Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi has described
adult education as a veritable tool for acquiring new form of
knowledge, skills and values which could facilitate self-development
in life.
Mr. Ajayi stated this while flagging off an adult literacy centre in
his hometown, Ara-Ekiti in Ijero Local Government to enable adults
without formal education acquire reading and writing skills.
The Centre, Alice Idowu Ajayi Memorial Literacy Centre is being
sponsored by the Head of Service in memory of his late mother who
though, did not have formal education, had passion for same.
The Head of Service who was represented at the occasion by the
Director of Administration and Supplies, Ministry of Local Government,
Mrs. Kayode Ojo, charged those concerned to explore the opportunity
provided by the gesture to acquire new education while he implored the
community to ensure proper use and maintenance of the Centre.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of Agency for Adult and Non Formal
Education (AANFE), Mrs. Biola Akilo commended the Head of Service for
responding to the call by Governor Kayode Fayemi requesting political
appointees and those on consolidated salaries to co-sponsor such
Literacy centres in their communities.
She noted that the gesture will enable participants of the programme
to engage in the socio-economic development of their communities and
the society at large.
Mrs. Akilo encouraged those who have registered to be regular and
punctual in order to successfully complete the programme as she called
on those yet to register to also key in.
Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Adedara appreciated the Governor and
the Head of Service for the privilege accorded the community.
He expressed the readiness of the community to jealously protect the
centre, saying he and his chiefs will embark on close monitoring of
the Literacy Centre.
