Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of Ekiti State has addressed critics both within and outside the state, stating that he is not concerned about the 2026 gubernatorial election. Instead, he has chosen to place his trust in God and concentrate on governance.
Speaking at the monthly praise and worship program in Ado Ekiti on Friday, Governor Oyebanji emphasized his commitment to making the remaining months of his term count. He highlighted his focus on infrastructural development, human empowerment programs, and food security initiatives, noting that the future is in God’s hands.In response to numerous text messages from political allies, colleagues, and party members seeking his reaction to the 2026 election, Governor Oyebanji made it clear that he would not be drawn into the debate.
He stated that his current position as governor was unexpected and attributed it to divine intervention. He expressed confidence that if it is God’s will, the same divine guidance will prevail in the 2026 election.
Governor Oyebanji reiterated his dedication to bringing more benefits to the state and achieving his administration’s prosperity-for-all agenda. He stressed that since publicly entrusting the state to God, Ekiti has experienced positive changes, and he remains committed to fulfilling his election promises to the electorate.The governor’s remarks come amid concerns within the party from perceived prospective contestants who feel intimidated by endorsements for his second term suspecting a consensus.
They have called for primaries where all contestants who compete freely instead of a consensus candidacy. Additionally, there have been various allegations and counter-allegations from intending governorship candidates from other parties, attempting to distract him from his administration’s policies and initiatives.
