IS IT TRUE EKWEREMADU PLANS TO DEFECT TO APC? HOW I WISH HE DOES.
By Akin Omoz-Oarhe
How I wish it happens. Many comrades are opposed to him being accepted but none has given me good reasons to buy their position. No one doubts the fact that Ekweremadu is a corrupt politician who has acquired about 60 properties in virtually all continents of the world but I do not think he is worse than Atiku, Saraki and Kwankwaso that were, until recently, in APC and contributed immensely to APC winning the 2015 election before returning to their corrupt base. He is not worse than Modu Sherriff and not worse than Senator Hope Uzodinma who was in the forefront battling APC to ensure that Senate did not approve Magu as Chirman of EFCC and also gave much problem to Col Ali over his Customs Comptroller Uniform. Today, Uzodinma is struggling to be the flag bearer of APC in Imo State. Ekweremadu may not be worse than Omisore who assisted APC to retain Osun State
A truth is, winning election is about Number not Quality of votes. So if Evans will bring in that last vote that will return Buhari in 2019, please, let him bring it in. Yet Ekweremadu is not a mean politician. He can contribute scores of thousand votes for Buhari.
I have always likened a Political Parties to the Church whose gates are opened 24/7. You can’t prevent people – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly coming in. In fact Jesus instructs that you allow them come in, the way they are. The only thing the Church must not do, is handing over the pulpit to them until they get transformed and prove themselves. So also with the Political party let them come in but don’t hand over leadership positions to them. That was the error of APC in 2015 when they handed over the entire legislature to nPDP defectors – Senate Presidency to Saraki and House Speakership to Dogara. That is the lesson the party leadership must learn and I presume may have learnt.
There are two great teachers I have learnt some political wisdom from. One is Obafemi Awolowo who said:
“For the Progressive to be in power they need the support and collaborations of some Conservatives. After attaining power the Conservatives would, on their own, walk away.
The progressive would now build a great party that would move the nation forward.” This is exactly what happened in 2015-2018.
The second, who is the Greaters Teacher ever is my Lord Jesus who in Mathew 13:24-30 taught us not to hastily do the separation of the good and bad. Hear this:
“So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares (Bad Seeds)?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
So if Ekweremadu wants to come, let him come unconditionally.
