
KIDNAPPERS, CATTLE RUSTLERS GET DEATH PENALTY AS MASARI SIGNS NEW LAW
The Katsina State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari has signed into law an amended Penal code law prescribing death sentence for cattle rustling and kidnapping.
Katsina Media and Publicity reports that, similarly, rapist now get life sentence in addition to fine and compensation to the victim.
Speaking at the ceremonial signing of the bill into law, Masari said the need for the law is informed by the current security challenges being faced across the state.
He said the law is amended particularly in areas to do with kidnapping, cattle rustling, rape and other related offences saying that “the decision to make these offences serious with the above punishment cannot be over emphasised”
“it is hoped and prayed that they will serve as deterrence to those that may be convicted and those that have the intention of committing them”.
@katgovmedia reports that it would be recalled that Katsina state is one of the Northern States being faced with challenges of cattle rustling, armed banditry and kidnapping.
The Governor was in Abuja on Wednesday to see the President in an effort to return normalcy to the affected parts of the state.
