Amodu Tijani, Chief Oluwa of Lagos, Nigeria. Went to court in 1920 to defend the land rights of indigenous land owners and Chiefs against the British colonial rulers. Won at the Privy Council in London. Became a landmark ruling in Nigeria but had implications for almost all British oversea colonies and territories at the time. The ruling recognised the Chiefs as absolute owners of the land.
