The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued three children from alleged confinement and inhuman treatment at the hands of their grandmother. The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the rescue operation, which took place on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Hundeyin, the infants, comprising a girl and two boys aged between two and four, were found locked up in a room in the Agodi Egbe Ikotun area of Lagos. The rescue mission was initiated following a tip-off from concerned members of the public, prompting the prompt response of the Ikotun Police Division.
Upon arrival at the scene, a team of anti-crime detectives swiftly liberated the children from their confinement and transported them to the police station for further assistance. Describing the condition of the children, Mr. Hundeyin noted their malnourished and unhealthy state, underscoring the severity of the situation.
The suspect, whose identity has been withheld, was promptly arrested in connection with the incident. The arrested individual is believed to be the grandmother of the rescued children. Investigations into the matter are currently underway, with a focus on unraveling the circumstances surrounding the confinement and ensuring the welfare of the rescued infants.
The rescued children are slated for transfer to a medical facility for comprehensive treatment and care. The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of all residents, particularly the vulnerable members of society.
