LESSONS FOR THE CP WAKILIS OF THIS WORLD.
You see, this man, CP Wakili (pictured) is a super cop. He has proven to us that he is one of the best we’ve ever had. Even more important, he is good man. He has shown us what is possible if the police and all professionals decide to do their jobs. But when it comes to institutional and organizational politics he is very very bad.
I think it was either on Fadima Ibrahim or Zainab Abba Halliru’s wall that I said he may not be transferred as rumoured, but he will not oversee the rerun. I offered that he may be rendered useless. It was few days ago when it was rumoured that he was transferred out of Kano State after the state government protested.
The CP and his staff not only made the main election voter friendly, they succesfully tamed the thugs that the state government was alleged to have strategized to unleash on Kano people.
He deployed a policy of ba sani ba saboda, which led to the arrest of deputy governor. But then, in the rerun, he was tamed so that the thugs will terrorize voters, election officials, opposition agents and journalists. What happened in Kano today was not election.
CP Wakili is simply the victim of his own success, his character and especially his mouth. He was all over the air, radio, television and the internet granting interviews, making promises about clean, free and fair elections. And what did his bosses at the Lois Edet House do? They just clipped his wings by sending DIGs and AIGs who watched as thugs run amok.
These DIGs and AIGs could not superintend only 208 polling units, in a state where Wakili managed about 10,000 in 44 LGs. Many of us believe it is not failure. It is deliberate – a carefully crafted strategy.. DIG Anthony Michael was drafted to be for APC what CP Mbu was to PDP in Rivers.
CP Wakili is about to retire in few weeks. His heart was and still is in the right place. But not that of his bosses. And his situation should serve a lesson for all the uninitiated in organizational politics. Keep quiet. Hold all the cards to your chest, and then do your job.
