
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State has warned construction companies and contractors to desist from vandalising fibre-optic cables and other public assets across the state.
The Ekiti State Commandant of the corps, Mr. Toma Enya, issued the warning on Tuesday during a briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Enya said incidents of damage to fibre-optic cables would no longer be tolerated, noting that such acts disrupt communication services and affect seamless connectivity.

He disclosed that the command would commence on-the-spot assessments of ongoing construction projects located along fibre-optic routes in the state.
The commandant described fibre-optic cables as critical national assets and infrastructure essential to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
According to him, any damage resulting from authorised or unauthorised excavation, construction activities, or poor coordination within the construction industry constitutes a criminal offence under the Critical National Infrastructure Order 2024.
Enya urged public and private sector players in the construction industry to comply with existing regulations and work closely with the Nigerian Communications Commission and telecom operators.
He also appealed to residents to report cases of cable damage to the nearest NSCDC office, warning that the command would prosecute any contractor, individual, or business found guilty of vandalism or economic sabotage.
