Seluwa Oluwaseun Vincent, a 300-level student at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) College of Nursing Sciences (CONS), who was indefinitely suspended following his protest against the steep rise in hostel fees, has petitioned the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, requesting immediate intervention. In his petition, Vincent described the ongoing mistreatment by college authorities, including threats of expulsion and the revocation of students’ admission, as well as a general disregard for students and their parents by the college’s Students Affairs Officer (SAO), Mrs. Adaramola Bukola Ayodele.
The petition, obtained by SaharaReporters, reveals that Vincent, a former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Students’ Union Government, has endured persistent bullying, public humiliation, and multiple threats from Mrs. Ayodele.
He further claimed these actions are backed by the College’s Provost, Mrs. Olabisi Awe.”I and many other students of EKSUTH College of Nursing Sciences have been facing a lot of oppression, bullying, threats, maltreatment and disregard from Mrs. Adaramola, under the cover of the College Provost, Mrs. Olabisi Awe, since she became the Students Affairs Officer of the college.
“We have agitated, complained and reported her oppressive behaviours, bullying, slapping, cursing with disregard for students on a day-to-day basis, to different students, people, parents and even to our alumni body.“Now, her actions are already getting out of control and making life miserable for students and psychologically damaging,” Vincent wrote.
SaharaReporters previously reported that the college, in a suspension letter dated January 3, 2025, signed by Acting Provost Dr. Awe O. O. and addressed to Vincent, accused him of “blatant refusal” to vacate the former student hostel premises situated outside the campus.
The college also accused Vincent of verbally abusing the Student Affairs Officer (SAO) during the standoff. However, narrating what transpired to SaharaReporters, Vincent denied any wrongdoing, insisting that Ayodele was deliberately victimising him for rejecting the hostel fee, which he said the school hiked from N100,000 to N280,000.
Vincent also accused Ayodele of blackmailing him before the school management and the disciplinary committee, defaming him, and calling him a psychiatric patient and a mad person. He said his suspension followed a series of confrontations related to the compulsory relocation of students from their previous hostel at Ori Apata to a newly constructed hostel, the BVERS Hostel, inside the campus.
Vincent said that the abrupt increment of the hostel fee from N100,000 to N280,000 per bed space caught students and parents off guard. He added that attempts to raise questions during a meeting with management were met with threats of expulsion. He said, “The issue of unexpected exorbitant increment of hostel bed space from N100,000 to N280,000 came late last year.“Initially, we did not believe it, until one day, the Management (Provost) called for a meeting of all students in the School Hall and forcibly instructed us to move immediately into the new school hostel, BVERS Hostel.“Our parents and guardians that would pay the money were not carried along and we wanted to ask questions that day, the Provost and Mrs. Adaramola did not allow us.
“They threatened us with our studentship, that whoever was ready to leave the school should not move to the new hostel, publicly insulting the students.” Citing a specific incident, Vincent recounted how Mrs. Adaramola allegedly ordered his classmates to forcibly break into his hostel room at Ori Apata after he delayed moving due to financial constraints.
