The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has declared five prominent political figures from Nigeria’s South-East persona non grata, citing what it described as political betrayal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Those named are Senator David Umahi, Sullivan Chime, Dr. Chris Ngige, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi—former governors of Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, and Abia states.
The announcement was made on Sunday during a press briefing in Enugu by the group’s National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka.
Igboayaka said the decision followed the politicians’ endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. He described their position as self-serving and inconsistent with the interests of the South-East.
According to him, their support overlooks key concerns in the region, including claims of marginalisation and the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
He also questioned the political records and influence of the affected figures, raising issues about their performance in office and past electoral conduct.
The OYC leader further alleged that the politicians were motivated by personal considerations rather than public interest, though he did not provide evidence for claims relating to corruption or ongoing investigations.
The group called for their exclusion from political and social engagements across the region, urging residents to disengage from their activities.
Igboayaka said the council would intensify voter mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections, with a focus on encouraging electoral participation aimed at leadership change in the South-East.
