Over 200-year-old Sultan Bello Mosque in Sokoto has continued to enjoy monopoly of popularity among worshipers. The mosque, which is reputed to be the first in the ancient city, is situated opposite the Sultan’s Palace. Built by the first Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Bello, son of Sheikh Usman dan Fodiyo, the worship centre is centrally located in the very heart of Sokoto city.
