The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has inaugurated 5,000 community canvassers to mobilise grassroots support ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
The canvassers who were drafted from various communities across the state were unveiled at an event organised by the Ekiti State Bureau of Community Communications.
Speaking at the event, Oyebanji described the initiative as a strong demonstration of voluntary grassroots support, stressing that the mobilisation was funded by supporters and not the state government.
The governor disclosed that the volunteers were not merely members of the ruling party but citizens driven by conviction to sustain a government they believe is performing.
He also emphasised the importance of renewing democratic mandates through continuous engagement with voters, noting that elected leaders must remain accountable to the people.
Oyebanji urged the canvassers to adopt a data-driven approach by identifying voters ahead of the election, while also expressing confidence that the strategy would help secure at least 500,000 votes in the poll.
While addressing the newly inaugurated canvassers, the Director-General of the Bureau of Community Communications, Mary Oso-Omotosho, said the volunteers were recruited from grassroots networks and have been assigned to mobilise at least 25 voters each through house-to-house campaigns.
