Dr Oluyede is no stranger to Ekiti politics, having flown the flag of another political party for the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and a previous chieftain in APC.
The PDP in Ekiti is forging stronger by the clear presence of a formidable Aspirant from their fold in the person of Dr Oluyede.
Although official campaigns for the 2026 Ekiti gubernatorial election are still months away, political speculation is already intensifying. At the centre of the discourse is whether Oyebanji can survive and break the jinx of Ekiti never having experienced any “back to back” 2 term governor and how he can withstand Dr Oluyede’s challenge, this time around in a much more formidable force of the PDP.
Notably, Oluyede in a sense is of the same progressive political stock…Dr Oluyede was amongst the initiators and founder of South West Agenda for Asiwaju, codenamed (SWAGA) he was one of the stalwarts of then APC that were capable to face former Governor Fayemi, APC machinery was used against him, just because of his support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As an ardent observer and a stakeholder in Ekiti, I have come to the realisation that the best person to lead Ekiti out of her current doldrums is a person who has demonstrated personal capacity in leading any industry sector to success.
Be you a medically expedient person, an industrialist engineer, even a sports oriented person of attained statue, a lawyer of esteemed status, but definitely not a career politician like the incumbent. Our state has been unlucky thus far quoting the words of the Senate leader, distinguished Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele. He said “the only industry in Ekiti is politicking”. This statement sank deep in my mind, was he implying leadership failure over the years?
Further analysis of the words from the distinguished Senator automatically makes one review our past leaders and their innate capacity upon their ascension to the elated position of governor. What had they personally achieved, how many men/women had they managed in whatever leadership capacity? I honestly believe the distinguished Senator has a point which he stealthly and cleverly delivered for us discerning minds to ponder on.
The industries Ekiti inherited from the old western region of Nigeria have been lost through God knows who, nothing new has been created to replace the lost jobs other than lip servicing MOU of never achievable status, why all these in Ekiti. Ekitikete, a land that used to be known for intellects?’Have you ever sat down to examine the resources that have come to Ekiti since 1999 and compare them with the state’s infrastructure development? Have you ever considered the rise of past government officials from poor backgrounds to super-rich status? Many have pledged to pitch their tent and one man-vote with a person that has a clear focus as exemplified through their personal achievements outside of political “Maradonic” scheming.
The current number one citizen of Ekiti state doesn’t fit this criteria for the next governor. The race that produced Mr Gov Biodun Oyebanji from APC was judged as manipulated. It is on record that even the current deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly went public on her Facebook page to declare that the primary was froth with irregularities, the era of the ghost writer ‘Osatuyi’ was birthed.
On the national scene, if they have forgotten, we will remind them. We know those who were hesitant in declaring total and unequivocal support for candidate Tinubu’s presidential aspiration in Ekiti then.

Those who worked for & Against Tinubu’s #2023 Candidature in Ekiti
Oyebanji is not guilty-free of working against candidate Tinubu!!Those who betrayed Asiwaju because of their personal interests/ambitions are already licking their political wounds because they are gradually becoming politically irrelevant in the politics of Nigeria.
Today, the incumbent Governor gravitates in and out of the Villa, but his predecessor doesn’t have such leverage.President Tinubu’s magnanimous nature and his disposition to embracing all players for a better Nigeria, particularly a prosperous South West, perhaps made him embrace Oyebanji, and not also without the assistance of Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who may have used his closeness to Tinubu to soften his heart towards Governor Oyebanji.
Ordinarily, those who should first benefit from the President Tinubu-led administration in terms of their loyalty and support for his aspiration, after SWAGA members led by Senator Adeyeye, Dr Oluyede, Hon Oyetunde Ojo and Hon. Bamidele Faparusi of the National Unity Movement For Bola Ahmed Tinubu (NUMBAT). Conclusively, every act of betrayal must be rewarded, if not on earth, certainly in heaven.
