President Buhari’s landmark achievements in Ekiti State
Transparency in governance and commitment to a vision that
affects the public would produce notable legacies for the present and
generations to come.
President Mohammadu Buhari still rose to power after garnering
majority of votes cast during the February, 2015 Presidential election
despite stiff opposition from other parties.
President Buhari, PMB as fondly called amongst fellow politicians
had earlier emerged victorious in a transparently and keenly contested
primary election supervised by Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.
During his first term in office as Governor, JKF ceaselessly and
fearlessly condemned the then PDP-controlled Federal government for
its suffocating inadequacies and maladministration. The cry for change
was profound and overwhelming across the nation. This manifested the
outright rejection of the then President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
and consequently ushered in the Buhari-led administration.
Close to four years in the saddle, President Buhari would have to
parade his score-card to justify why Ekiti people should give him
their votes in support of his re-election bid. The people would want
to see what his administration has done to warrant giving him their
votes.
The Buhari-led administration has not only performed creditably
by carrying out various laudable projects across the State, it has
also helped in creating several employment opportunities for the
people. Over 2000 jobless graduates were engaged in his N-Power
programme which has contributed in no mean way to reduce poverty and
social vices amongst the youth.
Almost 19 years after its creation, Ekiti state has been
operating without a Federal Secretariat until the Buhari-led
administration thought it wise to commence the construction of a
Federal Secretariat complex to accommodate the Federal staff in the
state. This is a great achievement on the part of the President.
The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has
passionately fought against corruption, an unprecedented achievement
in the history of Nigeria. A lot of money siphoned into illegal
foreign accounts by some unscrupulous and self-centred politicians in
the country were retrieved into the coffers of government, which aided
some developmental activities in the country.
Assessing Buhari’s scorecard with a bias and parochial mind could make
any man with light reasoning conclude that the impact of Buhari-led
administration has not been felt in Ekiti State.
There has been the existence of unprecedented number of Federal
political appointments which Ekiti state indigenes have been
benefiting from since Buhari government appeared on the scene. Ekiti
state has also benefited from different Social Intervention programmes
introduced by the Buhari administration such as the Home-grown School
Feeding programme designed for school children; the Conditional Cash
Transfer; and Micro-Credit finance for all categories of traders
across the state.
It should equally be placed on record that consequent upon the
decision of the Buhari administration to bail all States in Nigeria
out of financial quagmire of not being able to pay their workers
salaries, the Buhari-led government introduced Treasury Single Accoun
(TSA) to nip sharp practices in the bud, bail-out funds amongst
others despite the fact that the immediate past administration in
Ekiti State was not in any way in support of the Buhari government,
yet, several tranches of Bail-Out funds, Budget Support and Paris Club
Refunds were released to the State.
Buhari, a matured disciplined leader when he came to campaign
during the last gubernatorial election in Ekiti only itemised his
achievements without usage of any abusive language against the sitting
Governor in the opposition party that majority believe to be his
greatest enemy. What a challenging example to all politicians who
usually abandon what constitutes a good campaign for direct
confrontation that often lead to chaos.
Mr. President, Ekiti people are yearning to be connected to the
national railway line project because it is believed this would
stimulate economic activities and improve the primitive transport
system in Ekiti State.
The history of great nations is essentially the history of great
leaders – therefore, the time has come for Nigerians to sieve the seed
from the shaft by supporting and electing a leader who is above board
and capable of taking us to the land of promise.
