President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria , has a well-documented history of using political violence to intimidate and eliminate his opponents, as seen in the last presidential election. In Lagos, the city he once governed and enriched himself from, thugs loyal to him were used to attack Igbo residents, showing a blatant disregard for their safety and rights.
The situation in Port Harcourt is even more alarming, where a known militant leader, Chief Asari Dokubo, and his criminal organization have been terrorizing the city. Yesterday’s rampage, which saw six innocent people killed, is a testament to the lawlessness that Tinubu allows to fester.
Asari Dokubo, a notorious figure with ties to Tinubu, leads a violent group of militants, the Greenlanders, known for their brutal activities. His presence and unchecked violence are not only a danger to democracy but an outright violation of the oath Tinubu swore to honor and protect. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in any democratic society. Nigeria deserves a leader who promotes peace, not one who supports violent actors for political gain.
Political violence in Nigeria must be eradicated, and militants like Dokubo locked up for good. Tinubu’s ties to these thugs further discredit his leadership and show that he is unfit to lead a nation in need of peace and stability.
